The Rosicrucian Tarot originated from the teachings of Brother Bernardino, a member of a Rosicrucian brotherhood known as the “Collegium Hermeticum Rosæ-Crucis”, which was founded in the late 18th century and has endured through the ages in the utmost secrecy. It was at the beginning of the 19th century that Brother Bernardino proposed a novel arrangement of the 78 Arcana of the Tarot, far removed from contemporary interpretations; he did not merely map the sequence of the 22 letters onto the 22 Arcana; he reflected on the attribution of each letter according to its meaning and the correspondences of the Sefer Yetzirah, in harmony with the meaning and symbols of the Major Arcana.

Drawing on hermetic, alchemical and kabbalistic symbolism, Brother Bernardino describes his visions which, according to him, “are sent to him by Elias Artista and by the angels”. As he was never satisfied with the few sketches and attempts at engraving the Major Arcana, the Tarot had never seen the light of day until now.

Nevertheless, thanks to the tireless work of the Brotherhood’s members over the years, a complete vision took shape, encompassing everything related to the traditional Tarot and the enrichments brought about by the Brothers’ work. They did not content themselves with imagining a new Tarot with Rosicrucian overtones; they also created a user’s guide and its own language, much like astrological language, based on a reading of the Tarot that subsequently induces clairvoyance and spiritual vision.
